Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang
Project Descriptions
SkyPark Terminal at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SAASA) (formerly Subang International Airport), often called Subang Airport or Subang Skypark, the aviation hub in the Malaysia International Aerospace Centre (MIAC) has well established itself as the gateway airport to Kuala Lumpur city, being less than 30 minutes drive away from the heart of the city. Providing state-of-the-art facilities of a modem city airport, SkyPark Terminal, which also houses a Regional Aviation Centre for discerning corporate users, offers a fast, fuss-free and seamless passage right from check-in to boarding as well disembarkation.
The airport was officially opened to traffic on 30 August 1965, and had the longest runway (3.7 km long, 45m wide – runway 15- 33) in Southeast Asia, replacing Sungai Besi Airport.
By the 1990s, the airport had three terminals -Terminal 1 for international flights, Terminal 2 for Singapore- KL shuttle flights, catering to Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines, and Terminal 3 for domestic flights. By the end of 1997, the airport had recorded a passenger traffic of 15.8 million. To cope with the anticipated increase in domestic air travel, in early 2008, renovation works commenced at Terminal 3.
In October 2009, the fully revamped and renamed “SkyParkTerminal” with its distinguished sleek architecture, was officially opened by the Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abd Razak. This Kuala Lumpur City airport is the main base for domestic commercial turbo-prop operations viz. Firefy and Malindo Air.
